The Aviva Athletics Series returns to Scotland on Saturday 28 January 2012 for the Aviva International Indoor Match from Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall, live on BBC One.
Great Britain’s best athletes will go head-to-head with teams from the USA, Russia and a ‘rest of the world’ team in this early season curtain-raiser.
The Aviva International Match provides the opportunity to watch the world’s elite athletes compete on British soil for the first time in 2012, and if past events are anything to go by, get set for an exhilarating afternoon’s action.
Last year saw Britain’s multi-event specialist Jessica Ennis beat the reigning World Indoor Champion Lolo Jones in the 60m hurdles, before Helen Clitheroe stormed to victory in the 3,000m. Helen’s victory also saw her break Liz McColgan’s 22-year stadium record in the process!
Back to this year and world 5,000m champion Mo Farah is the star attraction for the hosts as he lines up in a rare appearance over 1,500m. Also in action is world silver medallist Hannah England as she makes first start of the season in her premier 1,500m event.
Jonathan Edwards and guests Colin Jackson and Denise Lewis will introduce live BBC coverage with commentary from Steve Cram, Paul Dickenson and Ronald McIntosh.
BBC One will broadcast live coverage of the Aviva International Match from Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall on Saturday 28 January 1.30pm – 3.30pm.
