David Price fights John McDermott at Liverpool Olympia in a British heavyweight title eliminator on Saturday 21 January live on Sky Sports HD1.

Price has won all 11 of his professional bouts to date and promoter Frank Maloney is looking to kick off the New Year with this Heavyweight ‘Barn Buster’, where the winner will earn a shot at British Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury.

Frank Maloney who is famous for guiding Britain’s only undisputed Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis to the top, has the same hopes and dreams for Liverpudlian David Price and believes 2012 with see him rise to the top of the heavyweight pile.

” I believe that the Price v McDermott fight will prove to the British public if David has the necessary armory to emulate Lennox Lewis”

Maloney also added “This shows the high regard that David has for John McDermott, knowing that unless he is 100% on top of his game there is no way he would face a warrior like McDermott”.

On McDermott, Maloney said : “He is one of the most unlucky fighters I have known in the history of British boxing.”

“This man definitely beat Tyson Fury in their first fight. I suffered more that night than the night Lennox Lewis lost because I ended up having a heart attack.” – referring to the controversial decision where Tyson Fury was awarded a 98-92 points win against McDermott.

David Price v John McDermott is live on Sky Sports HD1 from 8pm on Saturday 21 January.
