Amir Khan returns to Primetime TV in a head-to-head fight against Zab Judah for the WBA and IBF world light-welterweight unification title on Saturday 23rd July.
The fight takes place live from Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay and will be screened exclusively on pay-per-view channel Primetime (Channel 480 on Sky) for £14.95 – coverage starts at 1am. Primetime secured the UK rights to the contest in their second partnership with Khan after screening his victory over Paul McCloskey in April. Sky downgraded the McCloskey fight from Box Office to Sky Sports 3 following a poor response to pay-per-view sales, prompting Khan’s team to switch allegiance to Primetime.
Speaking of the rift with the broadcaster, Khan said: “Sky is the biggest broadcaster in the UK and we have to go with the flow, if they’re not interested there’s nothing we can do about that. We don’t have answers as to why they’re not interested. I’ll just have to win fights and prove them wrong.”
Khan added: “Hopefully they’ll come knocking on my door. I’ve got some big fights coming up – I want to be pound-for-pound the best in the world. I don’t know if it’s me or if they don’t enjoy my boxing. I think I have the most exciting skills in the country.”
Zab Judah has often been controversial but never dull and promises to give Khan a true test of his development. Judah has won titles across the Light Welterweight and Welterweight divisions and is a former undisputed Welterweightchampion. His record of 41(28)-6-0-2NC speaks for itself with his losses only coming against top level competition.
Jim Rosenthal will present the Primetime coverage and will be joined in the studio by former WBC Bantamweight champion Wayne McCullough. Benny Ricardo returns to provide the commentary alongside Duke McKenzie, a former IBF Flyweight and WBO Super Bantamweight champion.
Speaking of the fight, Jim Rosenthal said : “For Primetime I think it’s a terrific statement that we are going over to Vegas and doing the fight on site. This is a fantastic marker to show just how far Primetime have come, they now have the confidence and the ambition to go over there and give viewers the best possible experience. Being on site we’re going to really be able to convey the atmosphere to British fight fans.”
Primetime secured over 60,000 pay-per view purchases for the world championship bout between Khan and Paul McCloskey back in April, and the broadcaster estimates that over 100,000 people will register to watch the unification fight between Amir ‘King’ Khan and Zab ‘Super’ Judah.
You can order the fight for £14.95 by calling 08712004444, visiting www.primetimelive.co.uk or for Virgin Media customers by using the ‘On Demand’ menu. Customers on Sky must register the first time they use Primetime and once registered can purchase using the ‘box office’ menu.
