WBO World super-featherweight champion Ricky Burns defends his title on Saturday, 12th March at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow against hard-hitting Ghanaian Joseph Laryea. The fight will be screened live and exclusive in Saturday Fight Night on Sky Sports 1 / HD1 from 8pm.
The fight against Laryea will be the second defence of Ricky Burns belt, and could pave the way for a big unification fight in the summer.
“I can’t afford to slip up,” said Burns. “Everyone expects me to win, but I’ve not been cutting corners in training. In fact, I’m approaching this fight like a challenger. I see Laryea as my most dangerous opponent yet, because on March 12, he’s the only man who can beat me.
“It doesn’t matter what I have done in the past, it’s all about the next fight.”
Billy Nelson, Burns trainer said “Hopefully Frank Warren can get Ricky a unification fight later this year. Ricky is ready for any super-featherweight in the world. He’s getting better with every fight, and he is really growing into his status as a world champion.”
Ricky Burns v Joseph Laryea is on Sky Sports 1 / HD1 at 8pm on Saturday, 12th March.
