Sky Sports have announced an unrivalled season of boxing coverage as Ringside, the weekly one-hour magazine show returns along with a number of live international, domestic, European and British title fights on Saturday nights.
Live boxing season starts with Scotland’s Ricky Burns against Roman Martinez for the WBO World Super-Featherweight title, live on Sky Sports HD1, on Saturday, September 4.
The week after see’s Nottingham’s Jason Booth challenge Steve Molitor for the IBF World Super-Bantamweight title, live on Sky Sports HD1, on Saturday 11 September.
Managing Director of Sky Sports, Barney Francis, said: “Ringside returns to our screens and live boxing is back on Saturday nights – this is great news for sports fans.”
He added : “Every week viewers will have the chance to see a weekly boxing magazine show with an extra focus on the key issues in boxing with in-depth news, interviews and expert opinions. All live boxing events will be shown in glorious high definition on Sky Sports HD and the return of live boxing to Saturday nights gives the sport extra prominence over the weekend.”
Sky Sports boxing commentator and former world champion, Jim Watt, said: “British boxing is in a very healthy state so it’s wonderful news that it will have even more coverage on Sky Sports.”
Watt added :”There is a great mix of exciting British boxers that are knocking on the door for a world title and also some very gifted young boxers with huge potential. I’m sure that we will all enjoy watching their progress on Sky Sports as well as keeping up to date with Britain’s current world champions and of course the very best boxers from Stateside.”
