BSkyB have announced they are to pull Sky Sports News from the Freeview platform, making the service available only to those with subscription services. The move ends eight years of free-to air broadcasting of the channel and leaves the channel available only to those who subscribe to Sky, Virgin Media and Talk Talk.
It is thought that BSkyB are making the change to increase subscription revenues, having previously used the channel to advertise their premium services.
The channel will be replaced on Freeview with Sky3 +1, a time-shifted version of it’s existing Sky3 channel. BSkyB have announced that they have no plans to remove the Sky News channel from the Freeview platform.
