Virgin Media and ESPN have announced the addition of ESPN Classic content to Virgin’s pioneering TV Choice on demand service from 14th February, strengthening the range of sporting content available on the service.
From next week, Virgin Media customers will be able to enjoy ESPN Classic on Demand with some of the most memorable moments and matches from football, rugby and cricket, as well as nail-biting Wimbledon finals and a variety of award-winning documentaries – including the ground-breaking ESPN “30 For 30” film series.
As this year’s RBS Six Nations Rugby tournament heats up, ESPN Classic on Demand will feature a host of “Best Ever Rugby Matches” to choose from. Football fans can catch up with some outstanding matches from the last five seasons of the Premier League. Other content to be included from launch includes “Legends of Cricket” and the legendary 1974 “An Audience with Muhammad Ali”.
With 20 hours of sporting action available on demand, and fresh content updated every month, Virgin Media sports fans will be able to enjoy classic sporting moments whenever they want, at the touch of a button. In addition, customers using Virgin Media’s Online Player will also be able to enjoy a selection of shows from ESPN Classic wherever they have a broadband connection.
Aleks Habdank, director of On Demand TV services & strategy at Virgin Media said: “Brits love sport and we’ve got a wide range of options for every taste. Our customers can already pause and rewind sports to ensure they don’t miss a single moment, and now, with the addition of ESPN Classic content to our pioneering TV on Demand service, sports fans have even more flexibility for watching some of the greatest highlights from sporting history whenever they want.”
Murray Barnett, vice president, sports channels and syndication, Disney-ABC-ESPN Television, EMEA, said, “Sports fans continue to utilise technologies to bring sport into their lives at the times, and in the places, that they want. We’re thrilled to work with a great partner like Virgin Media to continue to find ways to deliver ESPN’s great content to them whenever and wherever we can.”
