Georgie Thompson will bid farewell to Sky Sports News on Thursday 29 December when she presents her final shift between 3 – 7pm. The popular presenter is leaving the rolling 24-hour sports news service to pursue her new role on Sky’s dedicated Formula 1 channel which launches in March 2012.
Georgie has been the familiar face of Sky Sports News for more than 10 years, anchoring the flagship programmes Afternoon Report and Evening Update from 3-7pm Tuesday to Friday.
Her roles with Sky Sports have seen her host the A1 Grand Prix motor racing series, US Open tennis, Speedway World Cup and other live outside broadcasts including The Goodwood Festival of Speed, Superset Tennis and the Race of Champions at Wembley. Georgie has also secured exclusive interviews with Freddie Flintoff, Thierry Henry, Usain Bolt and more recently, Cesc Fabregas.
She is also a regular panelist alongside Freddie Flintoff, Jamie Redknapp and John Bishop on Sky 1’s comedy panel show “A League of Their Own” presented by James Corden.
After graduating from Leeds University with a 2:1 in Broadcast Journalism, Georgie worked as a runner at GMTV before becoming a researcher on Entertainment Today. A chance opportunity to front a web broadcast from the Cannes Film Festival in 2000 led to a screen test at Sky Sports where she has gone on to become one of the channels most recognised faces since first appearing on screen in June 2001.
Georgie is leaving Sky Sports News to co-present an F1 magazine programme alongside pit-lane reporter Ted Kravitz on the new Sky F1 HD Channel from March 2012.
Ladbrokes are taking bets on a range of specials for Georgie’s departure from Sky Sports News with odds ranging from her crying live on-air to the potential of a marriage proposal !
David Williams of Ladbrokes said: “Georgie has an enormous following. We’re fully expecting some on-screen antics as she waves goodbye to her loyal followers. We’re also on red alert for new accounts being opened in Isleworth.”

Well she will be very much missed.
A great all rounder, she will be wasted on the F1 magazine programme I reckon.
Nooo, this cannot be. Gutted.
Sky Sports News won’t be the same, ever again.
It was a great send off !
