This years Cheltenham Festival will appear in high definition on Channel 4  for the first time.  Racecourse services provider RaceTech has upgraded OB facilities to include HD technology allowing the 2011 Cheltenham Festival to be the first major horseracing fixture to be shown in HD by the broadcaster.

The state-of-the-art trucks have been designed by RaceTech to perform a series of jobs from a single vehicle, including servicing on-course broadcasting and the needs of raceday stewards, as well as providing feeds to betting channels and supply pictures for terrestrial and satellite broadcasters.

RaceTech chief executive Brad Higgins said: “We’re looking forward to rolling out the new fleet and working with HD. This represents a significant landmark in the development of racing’s broadcast capabilities.”

Channel 4′s coverage of the Cheltenham Festival commences on Tuesday, 15th March from 12:25pm with the broadcaster set to feature five races across the four days.  Channel 4 coverage is presented by Alastair Down and Alice Plunkett with commentary from John Francome, Lesley Graham, Simon Holt, John McCririck, Jim McGrath, Tanya Stevenson, Derek Thompson and Ted Walsh.
