ESPN will broadcast live coverage of the Caribbean Twenty20 2012 tournament hosted by Trinidad and Barbados from 9 – 22 January.
The tournament features ten teams competing in 24 matches over 12 intense days of top-flight cricket starting, with domestic interest in the form of Sussex Sharks. Sussex are joined by 2 other overseas teams, Netherlands and Canada who will compete against seven Caribbean teams, with the highest-placed Caribbean team going on to represent the region in the Nokia Champions League.
2010 Caribbean Twenty20 champions Guyana open the event on the 9th January taking on Leeward Islands, with ESPN broadcasting this match live along with 9 others including the semi-finals and final on 22nd January.
Joining the teams mentioned above are defending Caribbean Twenty20 champions Trinidad and Tobago, plus Windward Islands, Jamaica, Barbados and Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC).
Sussex have been drawn in ‘Zone B’ of the tournament and will open their campaign against the Netherlands in Antigua on Tuesday 10th January and then take on Jamaica two days later.
The Sharks will then face Combined Campuses & Colleges on Saturday 14th January before travelling onto Barbados to face the islanders themselves, who whilst hosting the second stage of the tournament, are likely to include former Shark Dwayne Smith amongst their ranks.
If Sussex win the group or finish as runners-up, they will then go on to play a semi-final match on Saturday 21st January before the final on the Sunday of that weekend.
Sussex’s skipper Michael Yardy said of the group, “We’re very much looking forward to the opportunity of testing ourselves against some impressive outfits in this tournament. We have got possibly the tougher of the two groups though we are confident we can progress. It gives us chance to test ourselves in different conditions against strong opposition and will enable us to learn about the depth in the squad.”
ESPN will broadcast 10 live fixtures & delayed coverage of other games during the daytime schedule.
