Accrington Stanley’s Carling Cup second round tie against Newcastle will be shown live on Sky Sports. The match will be broadcast on Wednesday August 25, kicking off at 19:45.
Accrington Stanley earned the plum tie against the Premier League outfit following their surprise 2-1 win at Doncaster in the first round of the competition. Stanley haven’t been live on television since their Conference days and are expected to pocket a six-figure sum for being Sky’s live game.
It will be only the third time that Accrington have appeared in a live televised game since their return to the Football League.
Chief Executive, Rob Heys said : “It is fantastic for the club and we expect ticket demands to be high. We are going to sit down today and discuss tickets, hospitality, sponsorship, scarves and shirts as it will be a really busy time for the club with the tie only two weeks off. It’s really exciting, after Fulham last season in the FA Cup, to have a team like Newcastle coming here.”
