England take on 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists Ghana at Wembley on Tuesday 29th March, just three days after their Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales. The match kick’s off at 8pm and will be shown show live on ITV1.
With their next qualifying match not until June, Fabio Capello will be keen to use this friendly fixture to try out some new talent on a day when other several other countries have competitive games.
The team’s mood will be very much influenced by their performance against Wales in Cardiff – a good result will certainly enable the squad to go into the match with confidence, but a bad one could bring back the post-World Cup hangover.
The Ghana squad is likely to feature Premier League stars such as Chelsea’s Michael Essien as well as Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari from Sunderland. Ghana are undoubtedly the number one African team at the moment and impressed in last year’s World Cup. They beat the USA to reach the quarter-finals and missed a place in the semis after losing to Uruguay in a penalty shootout.
Adrian Chiles is on presenting duties with commentary from Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend.
