ESPN is to enhance it’s connection to sports fans with the launch of ESPN Extra Time, a live extension of ESPN’s post-match football coverage. ESPN Extra Time, will be available exclusively on ESPN.co.uk and ESPNsoccernet.com, and immediately follow ESPN’s live TV coverage of the Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Clydesdale Bank Premier League for the remainder of the season. The programme will offer extended match discussion and analysis, additional interviews and more.
ESPN Extra Time was originally piloted on 12 March around ESPN’s live and exclusive TV coverage of the FA Cup quarter final clash between Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers. The online programme will feature the same studio-based presentation viewers get from ESPN on TV, and will offer up to 10 minutes of additional coverage, including post-match interviews with managers and players, extended match analysis and debate. ESPN Extra Time will be presented by ESPN’s football presenting teams, which include Ray Stubbs, Kevin Keegan, Rebecca Lowe, Steve McManaman, Derek Rae, Craig Burley, Robbie Savage and an array of other guests.
Tom Gleeson, vice president, digital media, ESPN International, said: “Football fans use a variety of devices to engage with football, and ESPN’s mandate is to take an integrated approach to connecting them to the game on those devices. ESPN Extra Time is another example of how we will look to do just that.”
Jeroen Oerlemans, Vice-President TV Channels, ESPN EMEA, added: “The match around the match – all the dicussion, analysis and interviews – is a big part of what fans love about football. It is the social currency of a sports fan. This allows us to deliver a little more of that to our viewers in a connected way that acknowledges the multi-dimensional aspect of modern media.”
