ESPN Classic has announced the renewal of its English Premier League archive in a multi-year deal starting with the opening of the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League season.
ESPN Classic will be able to show 100 classic Premier League matches per season and allows the broadcaster to increase their compilation programming from 25 to 40 hours a season. In addition, the deal allows ESPN to use short clips of archive English Premier League games in programming on ESPN’s network of channels across Europe, Middle East and Africa.
The extended deal also allows ESPN to show classic Premier League games via Video on Demand and allows for match footage to be included in any original programming produced by ESPN.
Jeroen Oerlemans, Vice-President TV Channels, ESPN EMEA, said: “The ESPN Classic network continues to expand in popularity and a key element of this has been its English Premier League archive. Therefore, we are delighted to not only extend the deal, but also to increase the amount of programming that we are able to produce and broadcast on our network of channels.”
