The UEFA Europa League second qualifying round takes place on Thursday 14 July with Premier Sports screening ties live involving Fulham and Dundee United.
Fulham FC, beaten by Club Atlético de Madrid in the final of this competition two years ago, were the biggest draw in the first stage and, having safely negotiated their way past NSÍ Runavík (3-0 aggregate) now face Crusaders FC from Northern Ireland. The Cottagers were awarded a place in the draw via the UEFA Fair Play League.
Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer told Fulham’s official website : “The last three seasons have been, for Fulham Football Club and a lot of us personally, fantastic. It’s possibly been the best three years in a lot of our careers. We need to continue that run.”
“We believe that we belong in the top half of the Premier League and we like to think that we can mix it in Europe every couple of seasons.”
Dundee United FC, 1987 UEFA Cup runners-up, travel east having been pitted against WKS Slask Wroclaw. Slask qualified for this season’s competition after finishing second in the Ekstraklasa behind champions Wisˆa Kraksw. It will be the second time the two sides have met in Europe with United easing through in the first round of the UEFA Cup in 1982/83.
The 1st leg of Slask Wroclaw v Dundee Utd is live on Premier Sports at 3.45pm with Crusaders v Fulham (1st leg) live at 7.45pm. Premier Sports is a subscription channel available on Sky Channel 433.
