The Europa League play-offs take place over two legs on 18 & 25 August with a number of British clubs hoping to reach the group stage of the competition. Tottenham Hotspur will face Hearts in a ‘Battle of Britain’ tie in arguably the pick of the ties involving British clubs.
Spurs will travel to Tynecastle in the first leg on Thursday 18 August to face Hearts under new manager Paulo Sergio. The match will kick off at 7.45pm and will be screened live on ITV4.
The return leg a week later (Thursday 25 August) takes place at White Hart Lane in an 8pm kick off, again to be screened live on ITV4.
The vast financial gulf between the two sides ensures Tottenham go into the tie as firm favourites to reach the group stages of the competition. New Hearts manager Paulo Sergio insists his team are not in the tie just to make up the numbers. Speaking recently, he said: “It’s going to be great and we don’t have to fear. We have to show courage.”
Meanwhile, Rangers Europa League play-off matches against Slovenian champions NK Maribor are to be screened live by Premier Sports and ESPN respectively.
The first leg away in Slovenia will be shown on Premier Sports (Sky Channel 433) on Thursday 18 August (7.45pm kick off) with the Ibrox match live on ESPN on Thursday 25 August.
