The FA Community Shield, the traditional curtain raiser for the new Premier League season will be screened live on Sky Sports HD1 on Sunday 7 August.
It promises to be a mouth-watering clash of the Manchester clubs at Wembley as FA Cup winners Manchester City take on Premier League title winners Manchester United.
This year’s game will be a repeat of The FA Cup Semi-Final, which ended in City winning 1-0 courtesy of Yaya Toure’s goal so United will be determined to avenge that result and to put a marker down for the start of the 2011-12 campaign.
However, City will be keen to further establish themselves amongst English football’s front-runners and they will see this as another opportunity to pull themselves onto the same platform as their neighbours.
Speaking ahead of the tie, Sir Alex Ferguson commented “Obviously the Community Shield is not a normal one for Manchester United. ‘It’s about addressing our noisy neighbours again. It’s going to be an interesting match.”
