The FA Cup 5th Round draw will take place live on ITV1 and FATV at 3.40pm on Sunday 29 January, following ITV1’s coverage of Sunderland v Middlesbrough.
The tradition of reuniting key players from clubs involved in previous classic FA Cup encounters continues as Nuneaton Town captain Mark Noon and former Middlesbrough and Spain midfielder Gaizka Mendieta make the draw for the Fifth Round proper.
Six years ago, Middlesbrough travelled to Manor Park, the then home of Nuneaton Borough as they were called at the time, and were held to a 1-1 draw by the Conference North side. Mendieta gave the visitors the lead and they looked to be heading through until Gareth Southgate fouled Noon inside the area in the 90th-minute. Gez Murphy slotted home the spot-kick to take the game to a replay.
At the Riverside, Steve McClaren’s team, that featured Mendieta – one of the world’s most expensive players – along with Mark Viduka and Yakubu, won the game 5-2 on the way to the Semi-Finals, but the tie summed up perfectly the magic associated with The FA Cup.
The two fixtures will be remembered at the draw, which will start at around 3.40pm on Sunday afternoon after the live match coverage on ITV1. The draw can also be viewed online at FATV.
16 teams will go into in the Fifth Round over the weekend of 18 February looking for a place in the quarter-final stage.
