Sports broadcasting history is set to be made on Friday 19 August when an FA Cup fixture will be screened globally on Facebook.
The extra-preliminary round fixture between Ascot United and Wembley will become the first match ever to be broadcast live on the site after a deal was struck between the Football Association and the competition’s new main sponsors Budweiser.
The match will be accessed straight from the Budweiser fan page with the 90-minute live stream available via an application Budweiser has built specifically for Facebook.
Iain Newell, Marketing Director, Budweiser UK said: “As a long-standing supporter of football globally, Budweiser is committed to bringing the world’s most prestigious knockout competition closer to the fans. What better way to demonstrate this than by broadcasting the very first kick to a global audience via Facebook.
“This is the first time an FA Cup tournament fixture has been broadcast live on the social network, which is great news for football fans and clubs alike.”
Mike Harrison, Chairman of Ascot United, added: “To be involved in the first game of The FA Cup this season is an honour in itself, but to be part of a world first and have our match broadcast to a massive global audience is fantastic for our club.”
The Extra Preliminary Round tie kicks off at 7.45pm on Friday 19 August at Ascot United’s Racecourse Ground with the live coverage starting from 7.30pm. The live streaming will only be available to people of legal drinking age.
