The FA have announced the five FA Cup Fourth Round ties that have been selected for live television coverage on ITV1 and ESPN between 27-29 January 2012.
ITV1’s first pick is the all-Premier League encounter between Liverpool and Manchester United in a 12.45pm kick-off on Saturday 28 January.
ITV’s second choice match from the Fourth Round is the North East derby between Sunderland and Middlesbrough taking place at the Stadium of Light on Sunday 29 January at 1.30pm. It will be the first time that the two clubs have meet in The FA Cup since 1975 when Boro’s John Hickton scored twice from the penalty spot at Ayresome Park to send Middlesbrough through to Round Five with a 3-1 victory.
ESPN have chosen three Fourth Round ties for live broadcast with their coverage commencing with Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Watford on Friday 27 January in a 7.45pm kick-off.
Both clubs disposed of League Two opposition in Round Three with Harry Redknapp’s side beating Cheltenham Town 3-0 while the Hornets hit four past Bradford City.
Gus Poyet’s Brighton will host Newcastle United on Saturday 28 January at 5.15pm live on ESPN. The following day sees ESPN conclude their FA Cup weekend with Arsenal’s 4pm start against Aston Villa at the Emirates.
Speaking of ESPN’s coverage, Jeroen Oerlemans, Vice President & Channel Manager TV, ESPN Europe, Middle East & Africa, said: “The FA Cup continues to deliver the unexpected, and this was never more evident than during the last round as Crawley Town, Notts County, Swindon Town, Stevenage and Sheffield Wednesday all overcame higher league opposition to secure their place in the Fourth Round. Coupled with Thierry Henry’s heroics on his fairytale return to the Arsenal team, the magic of the competition remains for all to see and we look forward to what the next round may conjure up.”
