Football40 is a groundbreaking new Legends format billed as the games answer to cricket’s Twenty20 and Masters Tennis with the first tournament to be broadcast live on ITV4 on Sunday 29th May.

The event, billed ‘London Legends Cup’ will see a team representing Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham and Tottenham compete in a new style of 11-a-side football at Craven Cottage. Football40 is a 20 minutes each way format, and so enables a four team tournament to be played as a single 3 hour event comprising of two semi-finals and a final.

The rules of the game have been enhanced to suit the shortened format with unlimited roll-on-roll-off substitutions, a sin-bin and changes to the off-side rule to make the game faster, more exciting and competitive.

The London Legends Cup will be the first event of its type in the capital, with plans already in place for future tournaments including a mini World Cup that would include legends from England, Argentina, Italy and Brazil.

Legends such as Gianfranco Zola, Ossie Ardiles, Roy Hodgson, Paul Merson, Ray Parlour, Ray Houghton, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Darren Anderton, Stan Collymore, Jamie Redknapp, Les Ferdinand and many more will be involved both on and off the pitch.

Glenn Hoddle is Technical Director of Football40 and said : “I have been involved with Football40 since its inception and have been delighted to help shape a concept that we all believe will bring real opportunities for former players at both International and Club level whilst at the same time creating events for the fans that will have real excitement and competition.

For my part, I am also delighted to have accepted the role of manager of the Football40 England team and am looking forward to winning some trophies with them.”

Football40 London Legends Cup Live is on ITV4 on Sunday 29th May from 2.30pm, with kick-off at 3pm as Chelsea take on Fulham, followed by Arsenal v Spurs at 4pm.  The final will kick-off at 5.10pm.
