Gary Neville’s 18-year one-club career will be honoured with a testimonial for Manchester United against Juventus on Tuesday 24th May live on Sky Sports 2.
The veteran fullback had intended to play a testimonial fixture at the start of this season but was forced to put the game back due to the impossibility of finding a suitable date. Since then, the 36-year-old has announced his retirement and plans to pursue a broadcasting career with Sky Sports from next season.
Neville steps down having made 602 appearances for United, during which time he helped the club secure eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and the 1999 UEFA Champions League.
A graduate of the Old Trafford academy system, Neville
was also a regular in the England side while at the peak of his powers, earning 85 caps for the Three Lions.
Speaking of the testimonial match against Juventus Neville said : “I am delighted to be given this game by the club. It is going to be a very emotional night for me, especially as I pull on that red shirt once more in what will be my last game for the club. I intend to savour every moment and I hope the fans can share in my special night.”
David Beckham has been given time off from LA Galaxy in order to make an appearance and he’s expected to line up alongside the likes of Nicky Butt, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.
Neville has pledged to use the proceeds to support sustainable projects within the community, an issue close to his heart, and also has plans for supporter initiatives home and abroad. Sky Sports 2 will present live coverage of the match, starting at 7pm with kick-off at 7.30pm.
