The Welsh Premier League have announced improved coverage for the forthcoming season during the official launch of the 2010/11 Welsh Premier League season at Bodelwyddan Castle today. The League is to receive a major boost following the announcment that S4C are to broadcast a live match every Saturday this season.
The channel will show a game from the new Super 12 in it’s entirety every weekend commencing with Carmarthen Town v Aberystwyth Town on Saturday, August 14. The Daily Post North Wales reports that the new-look Saturday afternoon show will also provide a comprehensive results service from the WPL and other Leagues, including the Premier League and Football League.
S4C have announced that former Arsenal striker, John Hartson will be part of their coverage as a pundit. Sports report and commentator Dylan Ebenezer also switches from the BBC to S4C.
Hartson said: “I’ve chosen S4C because I feel it’s going places, I feel very privileged to have been given this wonderful opportunity to work with S4C. This is why I rebelled as a kid about going to a Welsh school and this is where it’s come in handy for me as I can speak the language.”
“It’s a very exciting time for everybody involved in the new format. From my playing days I remember the buzz from appearing on TV and I feel the live games will give the players an extra boost.
“There’s lots of talent in the Welsh Premier League, players who could be playing at a higher level. I know that from watching several games, especially since I’ve been retired 18 months ago.
“Having played all my football out of Wales I always kept a close eye on what was going on in the Welsh Premier and I’m very excited about the season ahead.”
Highlights of the other Welsh Premier games will continue to be shown on Sgorio on Monday nights and viewers who miss the live matches can also view them on the S4C website.
Sports Editor, Geraint Rowlands said : “S4C takes pride in its role as the home of live events of Welsh interest and our extensive coverage of sports in Wales on all levels reflects our dedication.”
