Sky Sports and ESPN have announced the first round of 2011/12 Premier League matches to receive live TV coverage with last season’s top four all being shown live on the first weekend of the season.
ESPN will show the first live fixture to be televised with Newcastle v Arsenal in a 5.30pm kick-off on Saturday 13 August, while Chelsea’s trip to Stoke and the champions, Manchester United’s visit to West Brom will be shown in the first ‘Super Sunday’ on Sky Sports the following day.
Manchester City’s tie against newly promoted Swansea City will be Sky’s first ‘Monday Night Football’ match of the new season with live coverage at 8pm on Monday 15 August.
Sky Sports has confirmed 39 live games up until the end of November. They will show 115 live Premier League fixtures across the season, with every match available in HD and selected matches in 3D. ESPN have also announced their first 10 live fixtures in the period up to the end of November.
Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, said: “Manchester United and Chelsea both feature as part of a live Ford Super Sunday double header on the opening weekend of the season, followed by Swansea City’s first ever Premier League match when Ford Monday Night Football kicks off on August 15.
“In the first set of live Sky Sports HD fixtures we will also see seven major derbies, all top six teams in the opening 10 days and every Barclays Premier League club live before the end of November.”
