European Tour Golf arrives in Scotland for the 2011 Barclays Scottish Open to be held between July 7 – 10 with Sky Sports and BBC Sport sharing coverage of the tournament.
Following 15 years at Loch Lomond, the 2011 Scottish Open will be played for the first time at the Castle Stuart links course situated between Inverness and Nairn on Scotland’s Moray Firth coast.
Castle Stuart Golf Links will be the seventh Scottish course to play host to the prestigious tournament since 1972; following in the footsteps of Downfield, St Andrews, Haggs Castle, The Gleneagles Hotel, Carnoustie and Loch Lomond Golf Club, which staged proceedings over the last 15 years from 1996 to 2010.
Italy’s Eduardo Molinari is defending his crown, having won at Loch Lomond last year by three shots. Among those expected to feature prominently is Lee Westwood, winner in 1998, who is bidding to reclaim the world No. 1 spot.
Major Champions Retief Goosen and Angel Cabrera have added their names to the line-up along with Graeme McDowell, the current World Number Eight and the 2008 Barclays Scottish Open champion. Americans Phil Mickelson and Matt Kuchar, presently sixth and seventh respectively on the Official World Golf Ranking are in the line-up, while three-time Major Champion Padraig Harrington will be vying for his first Scottish Open title.
Peter Adams, Tournament Director, said: “We are delighted to have such a fantastic field for the 2011 Barclays Scottish Open, which features many of the best players in the world.
“It is a pleasure to be in the magnificent Scottish Highlands for the event and we are very grateful from the warm welcome we have received from the Highlands community, who are embracing the tournament. It is all set to be a great week and we are all very much looking forward to it.”
All four days of the Barclays Scottish Open will be broadcast live by either BBC Sport or Sky Sports.
