Sky Sports will celebrate the life and career of former British IndyCar champion Dan Wheldon in a special documentary to be broadcast on Thursday 20 October.
‘Dan Wheldon – A Tribute’ will air on Sky Sports HD2 at 10pm, with repeat screenings scheduled throughout Friday 21 October.
Autosport report that the hour-long documentary will focus on Wheldon’s rise through the motorsport ranks from junior motorsport in the mid-1990s, through to his emergence as one of IndyCar’s top drivers, his title win in 2005 and his Indianapolis 500 victories.
Amongst the guests paying tribute in the Sky Sports studio will be ex-IndyCar racer Mark Blundell, former F1 driver Anthony Davidson and racing driver Johnny Mowlem.
Sky Sports IndyCar presenter Keith Huewen, who broke the news of Wheldon’s tragic death in a 15-car pile-up at the IndyCar finale at Las Vegas, paid tribute to the 33-year-old Briton.
“Dan’s death touched the hearts of everyone at Sky Sports,” Huewen told Autosport. “And on behalf of the entire Sky team our sincere and heartfelt condolences go to the Wheldon family.
“I’d also like to extend my particular gratitude to (studio guests) Jonny Kane and Johnny Mowlem who showed true professionalism in their contribution last Sunday.”
Dan Wheldon – A Tribute is on Sky Sports HD 2 at 10pm on Thursday 20 October, repeated Friday 21 October at 2am, 10am & 2pm on Sky Sports HD1 and 4pm on Sky Sports HD3.
