Eurosport to screen James Toseland Career Review

December 19, 2011   ·   0 Comments

Eurosport are to broadcast an hour long programme with exclusive access to James Toseland, Britain’s two-time World Superbike champion, as he looks back on a glittering motorcycling career cut short by injury.

Toseland was the 2007 World Superbike Champion on a Ten Kate Honda, and also won the 2004 Superbike World Championship on a Ducati. 2008 saw the two-time WSBK champion make the step up to MotoGP – the premier class of motorcycle racing. James managed to secure 11th position overall in the championship standings, but struggled in 2009 after suffering two major pre-season accidents and was unable to improve upon his impressive debut MotoGP season.

James returned to the World Superbike Championship in 2010, sadly it was another year of injuries and bad luck for James after going into the season with high hopes and expectations. The Yorkshireman ended his campaign in 9th place overall.

In 2011 he formed part of the factory-backed BMW Motorrad Italia Team to compete for the WSBK title on the ever-evolving BMW S 1000 RR.  However, on 9th September 2011 he officially retired from professional motorsport due to a wrist injury sustained in March 2011 at an official World Superbike Championship testing session at Motorland Aragon, Spain.

Toseland struggled through a few more races following his accident, however after crashing out at the Nurburgring in Germany a medical examination confirmed his worst fears. With a limited range of movement in his wrist and a prognosis that it would never fully heal enough to operate the throttle properly and navigate right hand turns, James was forced to bring his career in motorcycling  to an end.

‘James Toseland Career Review’ will be screened on Thursday 22 December on British Eurosport at 8pm and repeated at various other times over the festive season (see below).
