The BBC will broadcast comprehensive Formula 1 coverage of the 2011 British Grand Prix across the weekend 8 – 10 July.
Jake Humphrey introduces live coverage from Silverstone as the famous Northamptonshire venue once again gears up for its afternoon in the global spotlight.
The 3.6 mile circuit has many familiar landmarks, including Copse, Beckets, Stowe and Abbey corners, as well as the Hangar Straight, which will all have to be negotiated 52 times.
Last year Australian Mark Webber won his first British Grand Prix. He finished 1.3 seconds clear of local favourite and 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton, while Nico Rosberg held off Jenson Button’s challenge to complete the podium.
British drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button go into the race 89 and 77 points adrift of championship leader, Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel. The McLaren team-mates will be hoping for a better result for British fans at Silverstone.
Hamilton said: “I know what we are up against, but nothing is impossible. What we really want is a one-two – think what that would do for British sport and the fans.”
Commentary, as ever comes from Martin Brundle and two-time British Grand Prix winner David Coulthard.
