BBC Sport’s coverage of the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has been honoured with a BAFTA television award.
The programme, hosted by Jake Humphrey, captured all the action and drama as Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel clinched the Formula 1 world title. Speaking to fans on twitter, Jake said :“I am so delighted to have won the BAFTA. The team put so much effort into the coverage because we realise how lucky we are to do this job.”
Pit lane reporter Lee McKenzie said she is “so happy and honoured to be part of a great team at BBC F1 and now a BAFTA winning team!”
Ben Gallop, the BBC’s head of F1 said : “The team are delighted, It was a fantastic season last year and the climax of the campaign in Abu Dhabi was amazing. We feel privileged to bring that excitement to the viewers at home. We tried to get the audience as close as possible to the action and this award is testament to the brilliant efforts of the on-air talent, the production team and our technical crew, who have put in an fantastic effort throughout the season.”
BBC Sport also had two other productions nominated for a BAFTA, Wales v England in the Six Nations, and its coverage of Wimbledon. ITV’s coverage of Chelsea’s FA Cup Final victory over Portsmouth was also shortlisted.
