2011 Mosconi Cup live from Las Vegas on Sky Sports

December 4, 2011   ·   0 Comments

The 2011 PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup will take place from Thursday 8 December to Sunday 11 December at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas with live coverage on Sky Sports.

The Mosconi Cup is an annual nine-ball pool tournament contested between teams representing Europe and the USA since 1994. The trophy is named after American player Willie Mosconi, and is modeled on and compared to the Ryder Cup in golf. As of 2010, USA has won the tournament 11 times against 5 victories for Europe and one tie.  Europe won 3 matches on the last day of the 2010 tournament to take the title 11-8.

This year Team USA will be out to avenge their 2010 loss, and will definitely have the home crowd advantage. The arena at the MGM Grand will have an even bigger seating capacity (500) than previous years with additional seating being added to accommodate the rush for tickets at this exciting event.

Experienced American referee Ken Shuman has been appointed to officiate at the 18th annual PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup and will join Matchroom Sport’s Michaela Tabb, who will be officiating at her 15th consecutive Mosconi Cup.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, USA Team Captain Charlie Williams said : “The Europeans no doubt have a solid team with Darren, Niels, Ralf, Nick and Chris, but when I look at our roster with Rodney, Shane, Johnny, Shawn, and Mike I honestly feel we are more than their match. Of course anything can happen in the Cup, but you have to believe in your team and I can’t help but really believe in this one.”

Europe captain Johan Ruijsink said : “I am looking forward to yet another great Mosconi Cup and I wish the American team all the best in a fierce fight and a lot of sportsmanship. I hope the spectators and viewers will have a great time and I hope they will not be too disappointed if they see the Cup in our hands again on Sunday”.
