Danny Kelly to host Channel 4 NFL coverage

September 6, 2011   ·   1 Comments

The NFL returns to Channel 4 in the early hours of 12 September with a live game from the States every Sunday night throughout the regular season starting with the Dallas Cowboys at the New York Jets.

Channel 4′s live coverage of NFL Sunday Night Football will this season be hosted by talkSPORT presenter Danny Kelly who replaces former host Gary Imlach.  Danny will be joined in the studio by Mike Carlson for expert analysis.

Speaking  of his move to Channel4, Kelly told NFL UK : “I’m absolutely thrilled, if a little nervous. To be truthful, I’m trembling like a sapling in the breeze.  As one of the insomniac army who actually watches the game into the early hours of Monday morning, I’ve always been a huge fan of the show, and now I’m getting the chance to present it. It’s a tough task too as I’ve always admired Gary Imlach; I can never hope to match his knowledge of the game, but I’ll bring my own enthusiasm for the sport, and a ton of night owl energy and we’ll see how it goes.

The opening fixture sees the Dallas Cowboys travel to the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to face the New York Jets.  The Cowboys were out of the play-off picture by the half-way point of last season, but made dramatic improvements once Jason Garrett took over as Head Coach. Now, with quarterback Tony Romo back from injury, big things are expected in Big D.

Expectations can’t get any higher for the New York Jets. Beaten in the AFC Championship game two years running, coach Rex Ryan has already made it clear that a Super Bowl appearance is a minimum requirement this time round. On an emotional anniversary for New York City, and the whole of America, nothing less than a victory will do for the Jets.

American Football Live: Dallas Cowboys at New York Jets is on Channel 4 at 1am on Monday 12 September.

Where is Gary Imlach gone to? One of my favourite presenters. Was really good on NFL stuff. Will be missed, I think.
