The BBC are to screen live coverage and highlights from the 2011 European Eventing Championships in Germany over the weekend of 27 / 28 August.
The FEI European Championships take place every two years, in the middle of the Olympic cycle, and have been held since 1953. The 30th running of the Championships will be hosted for the fifth time at Luhmühlen, Germany which has been synonymous with international Eventing since 1975.
Great Britain is the most successful nation in the biennial event and the current squad will again be leading contenders for team and individual gold. This is the final major competition in Europe before the London Olympics and the British team face a stiff challenge from the likes of France, Sweden and Olympic champions Germany, who are enjoying home advantage for the first time since 1999.
This year, Luhmühlen organisers will greet Europe’s best athletes and fans with a fresh look and feel thanks to an impressive multi-million pound renovation of the site which is located in the Lüneburger Heath and within easy reach of Hamburg.
A total of 15 nations have announced their intention to compete at the HSBC FEI European Eventing Championships 2011 and a record number of fans are expected to be in attendance.
In addition to the excitement of the Championships themselves and the battle for medals, the two best ranked teams from Olympic Groups A, B & C at the HSBC FEI European Eventing Championships 2011 will also qualify to take part at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
