ESPN and ESPN HD will broadcast live & exclusive coverage of NFL’s Monday Night Football as the 2011 American football season gets underway. Coverage starts with a season-opening double bill with New England Patriots-Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders-Denver Broncos in the early hours of Tuesday 13 September.
The Patriots, who finished the 2010 regular season with the best record in the league, will be aiming to get their 2011 campaign off to a good start against America Football Conference (AFC) East rivals, the Dolphins. In the second game, the AFC West rivals have their first of two seasonal matchups. Last year saw Oakland notch one of their biggest victories of the season as they beat the Broncos 59-14. Both teams have new coaching staffs for the 2011 season and have added new players in the offseason.
In week two (19 September) ‘Monday Night Football’ sees the St. Louis Rams face the New York Giants in New York, while the following week showcases Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys. Other notable games on the MNF schedule include the Green Bay Packers (Ranked number one in ESPN’s pre-season power rankings) playing host to the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field on Monday 14 November. Six-time Super Bowl Champions the Pittsburgh Steelers, will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday 19 December.
ESPN and ESPN America will provide UK fans with the sports media company’s award-winning news, analysis and highlights programming, direct from the US, throughout the NFL season.
ESPN’s additional programming includes ‘Sunday NFL Countdown’ live on ESPN America every Sunday at 4pm, as the show builds up to the day’s clashes. Each Monday Night Football game will also be preceded by ‘Monday Night Countdown on ESPN’ – on 12 September at 10pm and at midnight each week after that – with highlights from the weekend’s action and a preview of the upcoming contest. Each of ESPN’s exclusive games will be broadcast in high definition.
