Match Fishing to be screened by Sky

International match fishing is set to return to TV screens this summer following the announcement of plans for the newly-resurrected Home Nations Championships to be screened live on Sky Sports.

The Angling Times reports that the match will take place on Cudmore Fishery’s Arena Pool on Sunday, July 17, the day after the Fish O’Mania Final on the same venue. Although full details on how the match is to be run and who will make the respective teams are yet to be finalised, Matchroom Sport are committed to screening the match to a live audiences.

“The plan is to stage the Four Nations Home International match on the Sunday after Fish O’ on the Arena Lake, and this would be televised live on Sky Sports,” said Matchroom’s media director Luke Riches.

“After the Champion of Champions event last year, it set the precedent for turning Fish O’Mania into a two-day event. A home international match seemed like an attractive choice, given the fact that it hasn’t taken place for some time. It will be four teams of four in a five-hour match with a cash prize. We’ve been in touch with the people who run the teams to get their feedback.”

The match itself was last fished back in 1999 before France and Belgium came on board to make it a Six Nations event, although that stopped in 2005.
