Sky Sports viewers will be able to see every touchdown in every game when the 2011 NFL season kicks off on the weekend of September 8-11.
Hosted by Kevin Cadle and Neil Reynolds, Sky’s coverage begins with Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers hosting the New Orleans Saints in the Thursday night season-opener at Lambeau Field. The first Sunday double-header features the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Giants at the Washington Redskins in a game given extra poignancy on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Following the successful introduction of NFL Network’s Red Zone channel on Sky’s red button at the end of last season, the experiment will continue throughout the first six weeks of the new season.
This means that as well as watching the biggest games of the day in their entirety fans can also choose to watch the fast-paced action on Red Zone, hosted by Scott Hanson. There, the focus switches from game to game depending on where the action is at its hottest, meaning you can see all the key plays in every game.
Sky Sports has been airing live NFL action since 1995 and will show approximately 60 live games throughout the 2011 season. For the first time, Sky Sports subscribers can follow the action even if they are away from a television screen by using the Sky Go service at www.sky.com/skygo.
Sky’s coverage will feature some familiar guests throughout the season, including former Chicago Bears safety Shaun Gayle, ex-Philadelphia Eagles full-back Cecil Martin and former Houston Texans quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt. There will also be new faces in the studio throughout the year, including former Denver Broncos safety Nick Ferguson and Super Bowl-winning Indianapolis Colts linebacker Ricky Boiman.
Sky will be following the progress of the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers with various special reports prior to their meeting in the International Series at Wembley on October 23, which will be live on Sky Sports at 6:00 p.m.
NFL producer Karl Baumann said: “This promises to be one of the most hotly contested NFL seasons ever and we are looking forward to bringing all the action, excitement, news and personalities to our viewers.”
