One of sport’s most enduring and enthralling fixtures, The Varsity Match returns to Twickenham Stadium on Thursday 8 December and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports HD1.
The Varsity Match pits Oxford against Cambridge in an annual struggle for rugby supremacy and inter-university bragging rights.
After 129 games across the years, Cambridge head the honours boards with 61 wins to Oxford’s 54. The scores’ tally is even tighter with the light blues leading by just 106 points after a century or more of clashes. Oxford won the encounter last year with a 21-10 victory and the 130th event promises to be as exciting as ever.
Oxford have named a strong side, with the same front five as last year’s victorious team, supported by current Blues Louis Mather and John Carter. Cambridge, however, will look to gain an advantage in the back-line, where returning Blues Loudon, Guinness-King and Stevens will start, in addition to Hunt and Cushing on the bench. Oxford boast a single back with Varsity Match experience in the shape of Sean Morris, a double rugby Blue and England Students winger.
The 130th Nomura Varsity Match : Oxford v Cambridge is LIVE on Sky Sports HD1 on Thursday 8 December at 1.30pm (kick off 2pm).
