Sky have announced that the Heineken Cup match featuring London Irish and Munster will be broadcast live in 3D and into living rooms on Sky 3D on Saturday, October 9. The milestone will mark the first ever rugby union match to be broadcast to homes across the UK and Ireland in 3D as Sky launches Sky 3D, Europe’s first in-home 3D channel on Friday 1 October.
The match is part of a packed opening weekend of European rugby union, with a total of 12 matches, live on Sky Sports, between Thursday 7 and Sunday 10 October. Munster,
who have retained their first place position on the ERC European Rankings ahead of the winners of the 2010 Heineken Cup, Toulouse,
will head to the Madejski Stadium to take on London Irish
in the opening weekend of the Heineken Cup.
England’s Autumn Internationals
will also join the 3D revolution as England take on New Zealand, Australia and World Champions South Africa
at Twickenham this November in the world’s first in home 3D Rugby Union internationals.
Commenting on Sky’s latest 3D landmark, Martin Turner, Sky Sports’ rugby union executive producer, said “The power, athleticism and sheer size of these phenomenal sportsmen are made for three dimensions. It’ll be rugby union as you’ve never seen it before and to have Sky 3D available in homes makes it even more exciting.”
Viewers who do not have access to 3D TV at home can still enjoy the action by visiting www.sky.com/3dpubs to find their nearest Sky 3D pub.
