Hazel Irvine and Rishi Persad will present live BBC coverage of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship final between Judd Trump and John Higgins from the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield over 1/2 May.
Judd Trump became the second-youngest player to reach snooker’s world championship final when the 21-year-old Brit ended the hopes of China’s Ding Junhui 17-15 at Sheffield’s Crucible theatre on Saturday.
Seven-times champion Stephen Hendry is the only player younger than Trump to have reached the final having done so in 1990 at the age of 21 years and four months to Trump’s 21 and five months.
Trump came into the tournament on a high after winning the China Open and has maintained that form despite the pressure of the world championship.
John Higgins will bid for his fourth world title against the Bristol youngster, who he has beaten in both their previous career meetings, in the best-of-35-frame showpiece. The 35 year-old beat Mark Williams 17-14 to book his place in the final.
Higgins told BBC Sport : ”I can’t believe I’ve won the game, we were both missing chances because it’s a high-pressure situation. I knew I would miss and I was hoping he would miss. But it’s unbelievable. It’s been a long year.”
On booking his passage to the final, Judd Trump said : “The more my run goes on, my self-belief keeps going up. Just to get to the tournament was an achievement but after winning in China, I came here with an attitude of enjoying it and winning it. And I still believe in that.”
The 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship Final takes place over Sunday 1st and Monday 2nd May with sessions starting at 2pm and 7pm. Steve Davis, John Parrot and Ken Doherty will be providing their expert opinion. Coverage is also available on British Eurosport.
