Eurosport to screen Britain v Hungary Davis Cup play-off

British Eurosport will broadcast Great Britain’s Davis Cup promotion play-off against Hungary in September as Leon Smith’s team returns to Scotland looking for a fourth consecutive victory in the competition.

The Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II play-off clash will take place at Braehead Arena, Glasgow from 16-18 September and will see the victors promoted to Europe/Africa Group I, just below the top World Group.

Andy Murray will be hoping to rejoin the GB Team for this crucial promotion match and will relish another full-house in Glasgow.

He is expected to be joined by Britain’s number two, James Ward, buoyed by his win at the VanOpen Challenger event in Vancouver which saw him break into the world’s top 150 for the first time.

British Eurosport will provide exclusive TV coverage of each day’s action and will show every match live as Hungary face a passionate home crowd. Live online streaming and video on demand of the three-day fixture will also be available via Eurosport Player.

The coverage will be hosted onsite by Eurosport’s tennis presenter Rob Curling with former Team GB Davis Cup captain Jeremy Bates providing analysis.

Hungary, who defeated Belarus 3-2 to advance to the play-off with Great Britain, were victorious when the sides last met in 1993 in Budapest. The Hungary team for this tie is likely to include Marton Fucsovics, a former Wimbledon junior champion, Komel Bardoczky, Attila Balazs and Adam Kellner.

The Davis Cup match with Hungary is the third tie to be featured on the channel, following British Eurosport’s successful coverage of the AEGON GB Team’s play-off against Turkey in July 2010 and the 4-1 win over Luxembourg last month.

David Kerr, Managing Director, Eurosport UK said: “Andy Murray’s return to the Davis Cup and to Scotland made the last tie a very emotional occasion.  The Scottish supporters created a great atmosphere and we’re delighted to be returning to Glasgow to bring our tennis fans coverage of this vital promotion tie. ”

The Davis Cup joins British Eurosport extensive portfolio of live tennis coverage from three Grand Slam tournaments, the WTA Tour, selected ATP Events and the pre-Wimbledon grass court events: the AEGON Championships, AEGON Classic and AEGON International.
